Tlingit mountain goat and mountain sheep horn spoons

Tlingit made spoons and bowls out of mountain goat horn, which is black, and mountain sheep horn, which is light. The horn was softened with steam or by boiling in water and placed in a mold. The two halves of the mold were pressed together shaping the spoon. The handles and often the outer portion of the bowls were ornamented by carving. Some spoons were inlaid with shell.
