Tlingit Basketmaking

Tlingit women wove baskets of thin segments of spruce root of of flat or twisted cedarbark cordage. Tightly woven watertight baskets served as water buckets. Designs on the outside of some baskets were made by wrapping stris of colored material, often dyed grasses, around the weft elements.
