Haka is a genre of Māori performance that is sometimes called a ‘war dance’—foot-stomping and body percussion combine with raised voices to create a vivid spectacle. Now, the haka is a staple of New Zealand rugby teams. In schools, private clubs, even on the national team, this dance is used to intimidate opponents and also to connect with Māori roots. Journey into a rehearsal of this complex rite.
