For the past 45 years, Monica has sold goldfish at a colorful Coney Island shop. This Queen of Coney Island tells her story in a five-minute splash of imagery, interview, and propulsive soundtrack, capturing her struggle to adapt to social change and the spirit of this historic neighborhood.

Re:Frame, My Perspective

“Getting to know someone, building trust, is not instantaneous. The best thing you can do is to be honest, honest with whoever is being documented and honest with yourself. When we have the ability to share one another’s stories, provide perspective, and raise awareness to an issue or cause, we ought to do so wisely.

Film and visual documentation has such an immense power, the power to depict gracefully and honestly and the power to enact change. On the opposite end of that spectrum, film harnesses the power to disrupt and impose, to cause a kind of representational chaos. What truly matters to me is listening to one another, being there for each other, and helping in any way we can. Everyone’s story matters.”
