New York City is a wonderland of linguistic diversity with an estimated 800 languages are spoken—more than any other city in the world. But nearly half of these are at risk of extinction. Follow Daniel Kaufman and a dedicated team of linguists as they search neighborhoods for both young and old speakers of endangered languages to record and preserve these linguistic traditions before it’s too late.

Resilience in Motion | In Their Own Words

“The most interesting and sustainable seeds of resilience are probably spread from a couple of enthusiasts with a passion for a cause that grows into a movement and inspires others. The Endangered Language Alliance (ELA) of NYC is such a movement. Full of energy and love for the riches of languages, our film Ciao Babylon can be seen as part of the ripple effect of the amazing work Dan Kaufman and all collaborators and friends of ELA are doing day by day.”
