What happens when ancient Tongan designs are projected onto the contemporary urban fabric of New York City and become part of a neighborhood’s vibrant landscape of street art? Enter Tauhi Vā, a stunning black-and-red mural created by Tongan artist Benjamin Work in collaboration with Maōri scholar and curator Maia Nuku of The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

This screening is part of the Emerging Visual Anthropologists Showcase and will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers, and anthropologists Dr. Faye Ginsburg and Dr. Pegi Vail, both of the New York University Graduate Program in Culture and Media, Department of Anthropology.
