Each Museum diorama offers a snapshot of nature, carefully researched in the field and artfully re-created back in New York City. Now a new series of digital shorts, DIORAMA, is bringing the stories behind a few of these iconic scenes.
First up: the majestic Moose diorama in the Bernard Family Hall of North American Mammals. Why are the male moose fighting? Are they aiming to hurt each other with their massive antlers, or just to prove their mettle? And why is the nearby female watching them?
DIORAMA's episode Why Moose Fight features Museum Curator Ross D. E. MacPhee offering answers to these questions and more.
Visit THIRTEEN.org/DIORAMA for more episodes exploring other exhibits at the Museum:
CORAL REEF (Andros Coral Reef; Milstein Hall of Ocean Life) –Spawning or: how coral grows.

The series is produced by WNET's Interactive Engagement Group in collaboration with the Museum and PBS Digital Studios.
