Sir Isaac Newton

Many historians consider English scientist Sir Isaac Newton the first modern physicist. He explained how gravity affects objects in Earth and in space with his three laws of motion. Newton showed that these laws apply to everything in the Universe, from galaxies to grains of sand. He also invented the reflecting telescope.

Born: 1642
Died: March 20,1727
Birthplace: Woolsthorpe, England
Education: Cambridge University
Known for: making revolutionary changes in mathematics, physics, astronomy, and for inventing the reflecting telescope
Publications: Principia Mathematica: published in 1687; Opticks: published in 1704

Newton based his three laws of motion and gravity on the findings of which famous scientist?

Dr. Seuss

Galileo Galilei

Edwin Hubble

Correct!

Newton based his theories on how planets move on Galileo's experiments. Galileo was one of the first scientists to perform experiments that challenged long-held beliefs about how gravity affects objects.
