Class Discussion

Establish Prior Knowledge

Have students share what they know about seed dispersal. Discuss that two of the ways seeds are spread are by animals and by wind. Tell students that in the snapshot they are about to see, scientists are making some discoveries about seed dispersal in areas that have been deforested.

Have students view the Snapshot and read the synopsis. Use the following questions to guide discussion.

1. In what country was this study conducted? What types of areas were studied?

2. What data was collected?

3. What did the scientists compare?

4. What were their findings?

  • What did scientists conclude about forest loss and seed dispersal?
