Disappearing sea ice and a warming Arctic are changing the growth cycle for plants that nourish Greenland’s migrating caribou. Breeding caribou migrate when days become longer, which aligns their movement to the emergence of spring plants. But climate change is disrupting this relationship, driving plants to sprout earlier and thereby reducing the success of calves’ birth and survival.
