They are divided into four collection units: Fossil Amphibians, Reptiles, and Birds (FARB); Fossil Fish; Fossil Invertebrates; and Fossil Mammals.
The Division of Paleontology also houses an extensive archive of materials relating to the history of the Division and its collections, including fieldnotes, manuscripts, correspondence, photographs, scientific illustrations, and works of art.
