Once launched into space, the James Webb Space telescope’s 18-segmented gold mirror is specially designed to capture infrared light from the first galaxies that formed in the early Universe, and will help the telescope peer inside dust clouds where stars and planetary systems are forming today.Join Museum astrophysicist Jackie Faherty and Director of Astrovisualization Carter Emmart for this special look at the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). Expected to launch in late December, NASA’s JWST will become the most powerful tool for observing the universe available to scientists.
