Common Core Literacy & Science Standards: Plate Tectonics & Evolution of the Earth's Early Atmosphere

This one day workshop focuses on using the Gottesman Hall of Planet Earth to explore the the formation of landforms that result from plate tectonics and investigate how Earth’s systems and life on Earth co-evolved to create an oxygen-rich atmosphere.Teachers will experience pre, during and post field trip activities that embed science content in Common Core aligned reading and writing tasks. Discussions with colleagues will provide an opportunity for teachers to differentiate lessons for their students.
Participants will receive copies of the Educator’s Guide as well as a set of digital and print resources.
Grades 6-12.

This professional day is geared for K-12 science teachers who want to strengthen their ability to use Museum resources to teach science. Participants will have the opportunity to choose from a range of breakout sessions that will utilize the Museum’s digital, print, and exhibition resources to connect with the science curriculum in ways that are engaging for students.
