Cuba: Conservation Educator Training

Dr. Porzecanski led a highly successful three-day Network of Conservation Educators and Practitioners (NCEP) workshop in Havana in October, immediately preceding expeditionary fieldwork. The workshop convened 28 educators from formal and informal contexts (museums, schools, universities), and from several Cuban provinces at the MNHN over three days.

Participants were trained in active teaching techniques, course design approaches, and student assessment, and were introduced to the NCEP module collection. Given the limited access to literature and other resources in Cuba, there is a high level of enthusiasm and interest in further developing NCEP programming in the country, and adapting modules to the local context. Our capacity development activities also include mentoring and support for Cuba’s MNHN in general topics related to research, education, and exhibitions.
