Tissue Loan Requests

AMNH staff wishing to request a loan of tissues owned by an AMNH department (identified by Herpetology, Ichthyology, Invertebrate Zoology, Mammalogy, or Ornithology in the Dept/Partner field of the database) should contact the department directly. Approved loan requests will be forwarded to the AMCC.

AMNH staff wishing to request a loan of AMCC specimens (identified by AMCC in the Dept/Partner field of the database) please contact Svetlana Katanova.

Non-AMNH researchers wishing to request a loan of tissues owned by an AMNH department (identified by Herpetology, Ichthyology, Invertebrate Zoology, Mammalogy, or Ornithology in the Dept/Partner field of the database) should contact the department directly. Approved loan requests will be forwarded to the AMCC. 

Non-AMNH researchers wishing to request a loan of AMCC or NPS Special Collection specimens  (identified by AMCC or National Park Service in the Dept/Partner field of the database) should request loans by sending a letter on institutional letterhead to: Svetlana Katanova, AMCC Collections Manager, American Museum of Natural History, 79th Street at Central Park West, New York, NY 10024. Letters can also be submitted as PDF via email.

The letter should include:

  1. a list of the specimens requested, with AMCC ID #, genus and species
  2. a project/assay/analysis description
  3. your signature (if student, that of your supervisor)
  4. complete mailing address (including contact information such as email and phone number) where the subsamples will be shipped to if the request is approved. Please note that the subsamples are issued to institutions and not individuals

 

Upon receipt of the loan, the borrower must sign and return the Loan Invoice and Loan Policy Agreement.

After the assay is completed the borrower should return any remaining portion(s) of the sample(s), 2 copies of any publications that used data from the sample(s), and, if applicable, GenBank accession numbers.
