Research Interests

I have a wide range of research experiences and interests, primary within the fields of Invertebrate Zoology, Biogeography, Evolution and System Theory approach in Biology. My Master's project in Arachnology (1979) was performed at Far East State University at city Vladivostok (Russia) and dedicated to orb-weaving spiders Family Araneidae of South East Russia. In 1989, I earned my Ph.D. in Entomology from Novosibirsk Biological Institute and it was dedicated to horse flies and deer-flies (Insecta, Diptera, Tabanidae) of South-East Transbaikalia.

My professional career began at Natural Reserve "Kedrovaia Pad", where I worked as a Research Scientist. During 5 years of the field work at "Kedrovaia Pad" I collected invertebrates, processed zoological material and monitored seasonal and long-term dynamics of natural ecosystems. For several years after that I worked in Institute of Agricultural Chemistry (Novosibirsk, Russia), where I studied modern methods of pest control and crop protection. After my arrival in the United States in 1994 I was invited to participate in the project on Australasian ground spiders in AMNH.

Currently, I am working in collaboration with Vladimir Ovtcharenko on continuation the study of the ground spiders of Australia and New Zealand. We also initiate the study of invertebrate dynamics in the Black Rock Forest.
