Internship Programs in Education at the Museum provide on-the-job training and exposure to careers in science, museum education, public programming and related fields. Interns work closely with Museum staff exploring scientific content, learn valuable skills for working with and teaching learners of all ages, organize lectures, workshops, festivals and film screenings related to the museum’s temporary and permanent exhibits, and have an impact on the experiences of thousands of Museum visitors.
Science Research Mentoring Program
The Science Research Mentoring Program (SRMP) at the American Museum of Natural History is an opportunity for New York City high school students to conduct one year (August–June) of scientific research with Museum scientists. In SRMP, high school students get paid to learn how to conduct research. Students work with peers and scientist mentors twice a week throughout the school year for a total of four hours a week on a research project covering new topics in the physical and/or life sciences
Science Research Mentoring Consortium
The New York City Science Research Mentoring Consortium is a partnership of academic, research, and cultural institutions committed to providing dynamic, mentored, science research experiences for NYC high school students. Programs range from summer intensive experiences to multi-year projects, with engineering, genetics, ecology, neuroscience, astrophysics, and more
Museum Education and Experience Program (MEEP)
The Museum Education and Experience Program is an immersive program provides a valuable chance for hands-on learning and career growth. Interns are required to commit up to 10 hours per week, specifically between Thursday and Saturday, once admitted to either a Fall or Spring session. Summer interns can complete up to 20 hours a week. All internship hours will be completed in-person at the Museum.
