While every day in the Gobi can be full of surprises, once the team settles in Ukhaa Tolgod, life becomes more predictable. What’s a typical day like?
5 a.m.
Everyone is asleep. Some crash in tents, others snooze happily outside on the ground.
6 a.m.
The Sun rises and people start to stir, gathering wood to start a fire in the portable Mongolian stove.
7 a.m.
The plan for the day is discussed over breakfast. If someone found a really terrific but really large fossil the day before, the team members may join forces to excavate it.
8 a.m.
Everyone wanders off to look for fossils. Knowing what to look for takes experience.
10 a.m.
With their eyes glued to the rocks, the team covers a lot of territory around the camp. Some people work alone in an effort to cover more area.
