Karen Kutish lives in northeastern Pennsylvania and has been teaching high school biology and environmental science since 1992. Since 1999 she has been teaching anatomy and physiology to students at Misericordia University, in Dallas, PA.
She received a B.S. in Biology from Virginia Tech where her undergraduate research focused on The Acid Rain Effects on Mountain Lake, Virginia. She received an M.S. in Biology from Bloomsburg University. Her thesis, entitled Intraspecific and Interspecific Mycelial Interactions Among the Wood Inhabiting Tsuga canadensis, involved a forest ecology study of a virgin stand of Eastern Hemlocks in Ricketts Glen State Park, Pennsylvania.
Karen has a passion for travel and the outdoors. She is an avid organic gardener. She loves hiking, biking, kayaking and camping. She is currently on a quest to see all of the national parks in the U.S. Karen works with a student watershed group that spends time in and on the North Branch of the Susquehanna River.
Karen is an associate of the Sisters of Mercy and through this organization has been active in outreach regarding ecological issues, education, and poverty in her community.
She has been married since 1992 and has two wonderful sons, Russell and Vaughn.
