Pterosaurs are actually reptiles and were the first vertebrates to evolve flight capabilities. Pterosaurs varied greatly in size, ranging from sparrow-sized to having a wingspan of more than 30 feet.

Pterosaurs were good flyers, having evolved a wing from the greatly elongated fourth finger of their hand.

On Saturday, April 5, 2014, a new special exhibition about pterosaurs opens at the Museum. Learn more about Pterosaurs: Flight in the Age of Dinosaurs.
