Seeing Red
Most deep-sea animals' eyes have evolved to see only blue light, because other wavelengths do not penetrate into deep water. Many deep-sea creatures have red bodies, which appear black at depth, so predators cannot see them. The stoplight loosejaw, however, can see red light. It also has two red "head lamps" that light up red animals such as deepwater shrimp. Since its victims cannot see red light, they don't know they've been exposed until it is too late.
