|The best way to catch a flying, hopping, or generally fast-moving arthropod is to use a fabric net. There are two basic types. The aerial net is made of soft netting such as nylon or silk and is used to pluck insects out of the air. The sweep net is made of a more durable fabric such as heavy cotton or canvas and is used to catch insects by sweeping through tall vegetation. Nets are available from biological supply houses, but they are also cheap and easy to make yourself.
