The Arthur Ross Terrace at the American Museum of Natural History

Ross TerraceThe Arthur Ross Terrace is an outdoor oasis on the grounds of one of the world's most inspiring Museums. As a key element of the major initiative that created the Rose Center for Earth and Space and revitalized the Museum's north face, the Ross Terrace offers a quiet, beautiful park of nearly an acre where Museum visitors and the general public can rest and rejuvenate.

Developed in the spirit of a traditional European garden, with graceful landscaping, a tree-lined promenade, moveable café chairs, and secluded seating nooks, the Ross Terrace was also inspired by the Rose Center's futuristic architecture and astronomical content. In her innovative and environmentally sophisticated design, renowned landscape artist Kathryn Gustafson in collaboration with Anderson & Ray, Inc., incorporates celestial shapes in the Terrace's striking stone-inlay, constellation-like fountain features, and ornamental steelwork. Gingko and Pagoda trees delicately filter the sunlight and provide fragrant seasonal bloom.

Sitting in the shadow of the spectacular new Rose Center, the Ross Terrace echoes its inspiration and meaning while offering an unsurpassed vantage point to view this architectural icon.

The Arthur Ross Terrace is supported by a generous grant from the Arthur Ross Foundation.
