Research & Production Assistant
The Research & Production Assistant provide research assistant support for various projects of the CBC, and to provide production support for products of the Network of Conservation Educators and Practitioners (NCEP). Conduct bibliographic and online research, writing, and presentation preparation tasks for various CBC projects, including projects identified by the CBC Director, projects for NCEP, and projects for the CBC’s Diversity Initiative; advance NCEP module final production through securing image permissions, obtaining and checking bibliography and citations, module formatting, and editing and proofreading module components; materials preparation for NCEP workshops and NCEP publications such as the NCEP website and LinC; data entry and updating NCEP databases, including the contact database and the workshop metadata database. Bachelor’s degree or knowledge and experience consistent with near completion of a 4 year undergraduate degree in a field related to conservation biology.

Digital Project Manager

The Project Manager will deliver the first, yearlong phase of American Museum of Natural History digital strategy project on time, on budget and to expectations. Based on successful completion of phase one deliverables, this contract position could be extended for additional phases. The position will report to the American Museum of Natural History Senior Vice President, Chief Digital Officer.


Responsibilities:

  • Execute project work plan and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements
  • Active, hands-on, day-to-day management of operational aspects of the project
  • Manage and control project scope and the change control process
  • Assure that projects complete according to schedule and within budget
  • Manages the project financials including weekly resource hours and overall project budget
  • Ensures project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately
  • Holds regular status meetings with project team
  • Effectively communicates relevant project information to superiors.
  • Resolves and/or escalates issues in a timely fashion
  • Preparing written documentation to deliver to team members and AMNH management when necessary, including timelines, meeting agendas, conference reports, etc.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3-5 years proven experience in managing full lifecycle digital projects involving large complex system implementation and integration preferably with an interactive agency or consultancy
  • Proven experience in managing complex, multi-partner digital projects
  • Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams in complex organizations
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem solving, negotiating, influencing, facilitation, organizational, prioritization, decision making, communications and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to motivate staff/project team, inspire teamwork
  • Solid understanding of project management methodology including the ability to identify and resolve issues, manage risk, develop detailed work plans and specifications, perform resource allocations and run team meetings
  • Strong knowledge of software development life cycles, web technologies, web development processes and the delivery of solutions with creative and engineering components
  • The Project Manager will be working with developer and creative teams and must possess strong resource management and solid technical knowledge across all digital channels

Administrative Assistant, Center for Lifelong Learning
Reporting to the Director of the Center for Lifelong Learning, the Administrative Assistant is responsible for a range of administrative duties that support the Center's programs and operations, such as scheduling, communications, events and productions, document and presentation preparation, among others. Develop systems for and implement inter-departmental communications; Support external communications through the creation of written documents and presentations; Develop and implement information management systems; Become fluid with range of programming and assist in all aspects of event management; Support AMNH organizational systems, Center budgeting and compliance; Send and respond to emails and phone calls; Manage Director's schedule; Schedule and support departmental meetings; Document preparation and dissemination; Events and production support; Communications materials creation support; Liaising between Director and other Museum personnel; Database and contacts list maintenance; Track Center expenses and project compliance with grants; Minimum B.A./B.S. degree and at least three years work experience in a related field; Strong communications skills essential; Well-developed skills in multiple computer applications.

Administrative Budget Assistant, Education
Working under the direct supervision of the UA Program Director and the Education Operations Director, this position will provide necessary program administrative support and is responsible for a variety of other tasks. Manage the program and center's bookkeeping electronically; interface with the Museum's finance, purchasing, and general accounting departments on billing, payment and purchasing; interface with outside vendors or consultants regarding invoices and payments; reconcile the general ledger to monitor inconsistencies and create monthly budget summary reports. In addition, this candidate will place orders online and by phone, maintain inventory, and file. Assist with research and cost comparisons for vendors to maintain cost effectiveness and quality, including scientific supplies and materials. Coordinate materials for meetings and training sessions and other activities of the program. The Budget Administrative Assistant will work with the program's director and other staff as to produce timely and accurate reports. Respond to staff requests for administrative support as needed and perform other duties and responsibilities as requested with a sense of humor and team spirit. Undergraduate degree preferred; proficiency in Microsoft Office; the use of software applications, databases, spreadsheets required. Two to three years related experience in budget administration required. Additional education may be substituted for experience.

Anthropology Educator
The anthropology educator will join a team of science educators in Youth Initiative's Adventures in Science program. The educator will plan and teach the after school anthropology workshops and/or the Fossil and DNA camps. Both the workshops and camps introduce children grades K-8 to the study of anthropology at AMNH. The educator's responsibilities will include the following: developing informal education curricula that incorporate Museum exhibits and is grade-appropriate, supervising teaching assistants, set-up and break-down of materials, and communication with parents. Applicants must have an undergraduate degree in cultural, linguistic, or biological anthropology and at least two years experience in education, preferably in an out-of-school learning environment. Masters degree in education or anthropology a plus. Robotics Educator

Science Educator
The Science Educator will designing and facilitate professional development workshops for UA teachers in support of middle school science instruction; Partnering with a group of UA schools in Manhattan and serving as the main liaison between UA and these schools; Supporting implementation of the 8th grade science exit project and long-term science investigations in grades 6 through 8 at partner schools; Visiting science teachers and school administration at partnering schools and supporting the alignment of UA with the schools' goals; Develop UA workshops for 6th grade teachers in the UA pilot program; Interacting with public middle schools and administrative hierarchies including the NYC Department of Education its regions and school districts; Collaborating with other UA and Gottesman Center staff to design and implement professional development programs; Produce reports and maintain records and files on UA Initiative elements; Masters Degree in Science or Science Education; Minimum eight years experience in teaching science and/or developing and implementing teacher professional development programs; Demonstrated ability in implementing inquiry-based education; Knowledge of NYC middle schools, particularly in the area of staff development and classroom science instruction; Knowledge of city, state, and national learning and performance standards in science; Strong organizational and planning skills; Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs; excellent written and oral communication skills.

Associate Director, Foundation Support
The American Museum of Natural History is seeking an Associate Director of Foundation Support to join its Institutional Advancement Division. Reporting to the Director of Foundation Support, this position will be an integral part of reaching a team fundraising goal of $6 million+. Major responsibilities include: collaborating with Museum staff in the development of proposals, donor reports, and tailored stewardship; cultivation of foundation donors; creating written materials that provide an important source of programmatic information used by Development staff; management of team staff and workflow; processing and acknowledgment of contributions; and developing new strategies for prospecting, cultivation, and solicitation. In addition, the Associate Director will assist, as needed, in developing proposals to governmental agencies, as well as strategies for leveraging public and private support for Museum programs. Qualifications include at least a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years experience in foundations fundraising, or a combination of private and public grant-writing experience; supervisory experience; excellent writing, oral communication, and advocacy skills; ability to interpret budgets; ability to understand and express scientific content and concepts - knowledge of conservation and education a plus; and computer literacy - knowledge of Raiser's Edge or other fundraising software a plus.

Development Coordinator, Major Gifts
The Development Coordinator position is an excellent opportunity for a bright self-starter with strong writing and organizational skills to be an important part of the Museum's Major Gifts team. The Development Coordinator will assist the Director for Major Gifts with the administration of the Patrons Circle, the highest-level membership group at the Museum. Responsibilities include assisting with the acquisition, renewal, and stewardship of Patrons Circle members; maintenance of the donor database; coordinating special events and meetings; writing gift acknowledgements; and other duties as required. Bachelor's degree, 1-2 years Development experience; excellent interpersonal, communication, and computer skills. Knowledge of Raiser's Edge fundraising software a plus.

Astrophysics Educator
The astrophysics educator would join a team of science educators staffing the museum’s out-of-school programming; coordinate the museum’s Saltz Internship program, which trains high school students to engage visitors in the museum’s major exhibition halls through the use of carts containing hands-on interactives and technologies.  Recruit, hire, train and supervise these interns during the summer and supervise the weekend internship coordinator during the school year; develop and teach various astrophysics/astronomy topics to children and youth in the Museum’s Adventures in Science and After School Programs, which provide in-depth workshops during after school, weekend and summer hours.  Applicants must have an undergraduate degree in Earth Science, Physics, Astrophysics or Astronomy and at least two years experience in education, preferably in an out-of-school learning environment.  Masters degree in Education or the physical sciences a plus.  Desired personal traits include finely tuned organizational and communication skills, ability to multi-task, ability to meet deadlines and to collaborate and play well with others.

Scientific Assistant, Vertebrate Zoology
The Scientific Assistant will participate in care of vertebrate collections including specimen preparation, assistance in collection moves, pest management, environmental monitoring, processing information requests, and assisting visitors. Other duties as assigned; BA/BSc in biology or related field is required; museum experience, computer skills, and a background in vertebrate skeletal morphology and specimen preparation are desirable. Familiarity with integrated pest management techniques is a plus. The successful applicant will be expected to have good manual dexterity and time-management skills.

Administrative Assistant, Operational Planning
The Administrative Assistant is responsible for ensuring a high level of functionality between team members and other personnel in the Museum's administration. This includes time management and administrative support for the Senior Director, screening requests, setting priorities, and assuring that needed materials are available to the Senior Director to meet assignments and responsibilities. It also includes providing administrative and special project support to all members of the Operational Planning and Services team and to other Operations staff, as requested. Duties and responsibilities include; Maintaining calendar — schedule appointments and meetings, reserving and preparing meeting space; Maintaining office budget and procurement system, spreadsheets; produce monthly updates, maintain electronic requisitioning system General office maintenance and administrative duties — maintain functioning office environment and open lines of communication; compose letters on behalf of department team members, as requested; maintain the front desk area; answer main telephone lines Special projects are requested; Undergraduate degree or a minimum two (2) years experience in a similar administrative role supporting a multi-faceted department.
