“Strategy for the exams is more important than knowledge” is the advice given by one teacher at an elite high school in Chongqing, China. Director Marije Meerman follows four students as they compete for the few coveted spots at Beijing’s two top universities. Pressure from teachers who earn bonuses based on test scores and guilt from parents who sacrificed to send their children to school only add to the tension in the final weeks before the exams—exams that represents their single chance to stake a claim in the global economy.
