Zalambdalestes Two groups of tiny, primitive mammals turn up with dazzling frequency in the Gobi. (Normally, small bones don't survive to wise, old fossildom.) Zambdalestes, a needle-nosed insectivore, is a "therian." This group of furry fellows constitutes the humble predecessors of both the marsupial and the placental lines of mammals: Say hello to your ancestors' ancestors!
