Pearls is organized by the American Museum of Natural History in collaboration with The Field Museum, Chicago.

Pearls was on view at the American Museum of Natural History from October 13, 2001 to April 14, 2002, and then traveled to Chicago's Field Museum, from June 28, 2002, through January 5, 2003. Its extensive tour schedule includes the Fernbank Museum of Natural History, Atlanta, Georgia (March 29 to July 20, 2003), the Houston Museum of Natural Science, Houston, Texas (September 27, 2003 to January 18, 2004), the Midland Center for the Arts, Midland, Michigan (March 13 to July 25, 2004), the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto, Canada (September 18, 2004 to January 9, 2005), the Milwaukee Public Museum, Milwaukee, Wisconsin (March 5 to June 26, 2005), the National Science Museum, Tokyo (October 1, 2005 to January 15, 2006) and the Natural History Museum, London (April 7 to October 15, 2006). Pearls is expected to travel to other international cities after London.

The Pearls site was designed in collaboration with Sean Oakes Studios.
