HS Summer Science Insititute

Do you like science? Do you want to see what goes on behind-the-scenes at a museum and what scientists do all day? Do you want to get involved but don’t know how? Then join us for the Summer Science Institute!

Participants in the Summer Science Institute will learn about the wide range of scientific disciplines both on display in the exhibit halls and under investigation in our laboratories. Students will have the opportunity to meet scientists, attend exclusive behind-the-scenes tours of our collections, and take part in interactive hands-on explorations.

The Summer Science Institute runs for two weeks. Week 1 is devoted to Earth & Space science including the study of rocks and minerals, geodynamics and earth processes, planetology and exo-planets, stars, super novae, galaxies and black holes. Week 2 is devoted to the biological and life sciences and focuses on biodiversity, conservation genetics, evolution, paleontology and anthropology. In addition students will learn about our other high school programs: the Science Research Mentoring Programs, Saltz, and the After School Program.

Week 1, EARTH AND SPACE WEEK:  August 19 - 23, 2013

Week 2, BIOLOGY AND EVOLUTION WEEK:  August 26 - 30, 2013

Participants may attend one or both weeks of the Institute where they will learn about the wide range of scientific disciplines both on display in the exhibit halls and under investigation in our laboratories.
