These are formal classes so please be prepared to stay for the full two-hour class.
Family Fun classes are for ages 5+. Children between 5–8 must have a parent or guardian with them.
All other classes are for ages 8+. Children between 8–13 must have a parent or guardian with them.
Morning classes run from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. Please arrive by 10:15 am.
Level: Intermediate
Teacher: Alex Matthews
If you missed those amazing boxes in December, here’s your chance to learn more. Alex will show the secrets of producing impressive twist tops for the traditional masu box (base). He will teach his original pinwheel and knobby variations as time permits.
Level: Intermediate
Teacher: Donna Walcavage
Lunar New Year is almost upon us, and 2027 is the Year of the Goat. You’ll have a bleating good time in this class taught by Donna. She will lead you (not by the nose) through the steps to make these capricious caprines. Take time to shape the sculptural forms of these 3D critters by Joseph Hwang and Jozsef Zsebe. Have fun with the horns. After all, horns are what make the goat. These really are the GOAT of goats.
Afternoon Classes
Afternoon classes run from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Please arrive by 2:15 pm.
Level: Simple
Teacher: Kika Salgo
Kika will teach some of her favorite simple models which is a wonderful way to learn some origami basics and have some fun! This class is a great opportunity for families to explore the magic of origami together. No experience is necessary. For Family Fun (beginner) classes you must be at least 5 years old. Children between 5 and 8 must have a parent or guardian pay to register and take the class with them. Adults not accompanying children are also welcome! These are some of our best-loved models to teach at OrigamiUSA public events.
Level: Intermediate
Teacher: Jake Schenthal
You don’t like fruit? You’ll love these cute tomatoes and mandarins, just don’t eat them! Jake will teach Makoto Yamaguchi’s model which features color changes and a fun step at the end. Truly a very satisfying fold. Your fruit bowl will never be empty with these around.
