Education

Australian National University, Australia, PhD 2012 in Experimental Petrology

Saint-Petersburg Mining Institute, Russia, M.S. 2007 in Mineralogy

Saint-Petersburg Mining Institute, Russia, B.S. 2005 in Petrology, Mineralogy and Geochemistry

Research Interests

Kate is an experimental petrologist with a strong background in mineralogy and trace element geochemistry. Her main research interests include: mineralogy and petrology of the deep sublithospheric mantle, the oxidation state of the Earth’s mantle, the deep carbon cycle, the distribution of trace elements during mantle melting, sulphide and chalcophile element geochemistry, kimberlite genesis and diamond inclusions.

She is specifically interested in the oxidation state of the deep earth that she addressed through Mössbauer Synchrotron Spectroscopy (ESRF, Grenoble, France) applied to inclusions in diamonds. Her other research interest revolves around cratonic mantle metasomatism and the formation of low-degree melts in the cratonic mantle, which she studies using mantle xenoliths from kimberlite pipes worldwide. Additionally, she is also interested in mantle sulphides, their types and occurrences in lithospheric and sublithospheric mantle.
