Georgia farmers Willie Head Jr. and Carlie Williams, stewards of some of America’s oldest Black-run farms, fight for their land’s future in a shifting agricultural landscape. In 2024, the USDA pledged $2 billion to 40,000 Black farmers, but funding delays persist. Seeds, shot in striking black-and-white, follows Head and Williams as they confront bureaucracy in Washington, blending the farmers’ resilience and expertise into a contemplative portrait of Black agricultural heritage and the struggle for restorative justice.
The screening will be followed by a talkback with the director Brittany Shyne, moderated by interdisciplinary artist, filmmaker and scholar Thomas Allen Harris.
Co-presented with the Black Documentary Collective.
The Black Documentary Collective (BDC) was founded by the late, great documentarian St. Clair Bourne to support the artistic development and professional advancement of documentary filmmakers of African descent. The BDC is also dedicated to making a difference in the ever-increasing communities that are reflected in and resonate with the varied work of our members through community partnerships, impact and engagement.
