Submissions

Eligibility 

  • The Mead Festival considers a wide range of non-narrative films and videos including feature length documentaries, hybrid works, shorts, experimental films, essay films, animation, and new media. 
  • Productions must have been completed within the last three years. 
  • Works in any language other than English must have English subtitles or English voice-over narration. 
  • The Mead does not accept resubmissions. 

Filmmaker Award 

The Margaret Mead Filmmaker Award is given to a filmmaker whose feature documentary offers a new perspective on a culture or community as well as displays artistic excellence and originality in storytelling technique. 

Films selected for the Margaret Mead Film Festival that are U.S., North American, or world premieres and are at least 60 minutes long are eligible for the Margaret Mead Filmmaker Award.  

Entry Fee 

  • Early Bird Deadline: Standard, $20; Student, $5 
  • Regular Deadline: Standard, $30; Student, $10 

Entry Procedure 

  • Complete a separate form for each submission. 
  • Pay the entry fee through FilmFreeway. 

Preview Format 

  • Online screeners—submit via FilmFreeway 

Notification 

  • All entrants will be notified of their final submission status in early March via email. Please be sure the Margaret Mead Festival email address ([email protected]) does not get caught in your spam filter. 
  • Please do not call or write to check on your submission.
