Submissions

Submissions to the 2019 Margaret Mead Film Festival are now closed.

Eligibility

  • The Mead considers a range of non-narrative films and videos including feature length documentaries, hybrid works, shorts, experimental films, essay films, animation, and new media.
  • Productions must have been completed within the last three years.
  • Works in any language other than English must have English subtitles or English voiceover narration.
  • The Mead does not accept resubmissions.
  • The deadline for 2019 submission is May 1, 2019.

Filmmaker Award

  • Each year the award is given to a filmmaker whose feature documentary offers a new perspective on a culture or community remote from the majority of our audiences' experience as well as displays artistic excellence and originality in storytelling technique.
  • Films selected for the Margaret Mead Film Festival that are U.S., North American, or World Premieres are eligible for the Award.

Entry Fee

  • $5-30 US dollars. 
    • Early Bird Deadline (March 18): Standard: $20 USD, Student: $5 USD
    • Regular Deadline (April 8): Standard: $25 USD, Student: $10 USD
    • Late Deadline (May 1): Standard: $30 USD, Student: $15 USD
  • Pay online via FilmFreeway. 

Entry Procedure

  • Complete a separate form for each submission.
  • Pay the entry fee through FilmFreeway.

Notification

  • All entrants will be notified of their final submission status in late August via email. Please be sure the Margaret Mead Film Festival email address (meadfest@amnh.org) does not get caught in your spam filter.
  • Please do not call or write to check on your submission.

  • HDCam, 35mm, 16mm, Quicktime ProRes
