Each Museum diorama offers a snapshot of nature, carefully researched in the field and artfully re-created back in New York City.
Now a new series of digital shorts, DIORAMA, is bringing the stories behind a few of these iconic scenes.
First up: the majestic Moose diorama in the Bernard Family Hall of North American Mammals. Why are the male moose fighting? Are they aiming to hurt each other with their massive antlers, or just to prove their mettle? And why is the nearby female watching them?
The episode "Why Moose Fight" features Museum Curator Ross D. E. MacPhee offering answers to these questions and more.
Other DIORAMA episodes feature Museum exhibits:
- "How Coral Grows" explores the Andros Coral Reef diorama in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life.
- "What's Inside the Termite Nest?" features the Environment of the Impala Group, Termite Hill, in the Akeley Hall of African Mammals.
