Labor of Love: Combatting Misinformation and Hesitancy in Communities of Color

Part of Educators

2021-COVID-TSSS-2460x1384

Join us for a special session for educators with Dr. Torian Easterling, First Deputy Commissioner and Chief Equity Officer at the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

Saving lives must drive our response to COVID-19 and vaccinations are the most effective tool we have thus far. Recent data shows that COVID-19, fueled by the Delta variant, is more dangerous for individuals who are unvaccinated and continues to disproportionately impact communities of color. While many have placed judgment on those who have not gotten the vaccine, people who are unvaccinated are not a monolith. Increasing equity to combat structural racism, misinformation regarding data, science, and access of vaccination sit at the core of this work. This discussion will explore the historical and cultural roots of vaccine hesitancy and share what key messages we must combat in order to protect one another from COVID-19.

This is a free online event for grade K–12 teachers. One hour of CTLE credit available.
