This family weekend series, proudly sponsored by the Paul and Irma Milstein Family, presents afternoon programs that give visitors a chance to interact with scientists, discover amazing animals, and celebrate science under the Museum's iconic blue whale.

Milstein Science Series programs are free for Members or with Museum admission.

Sunday, March 10: Ocean Eats 

Explore the relationship between humans and the oceans, from cultural traditions and fishing practices to sustainable seafood, and learn how to be a steward of Earth’s seas. Join host Mark Siddall, scientist Eleanor Sterling, chef Chris Young, and author Mark Kurlansky with his daughter Talia Kurlansky as they discuss the challenges of sustainable practices. Sunday, March 10: Special Presentation of Shellshocked: Saving Oysters to Save Ourselves

The film SHELLSHOCKED: Saving Oysters to Save Ourselves follows efforts in New York Harbor to prevent the extinction of wild oyster reefs, which keep our oceans healthy by filtering water and engineering ecosystems. Click here for more information. 

Sunday, April 14: Island Life 

Oceanic islands foster an array of wondrous biodiversity. In this family-friendly program, explore what scientists have learned about island species since Darwin’s famous voyage on the Beagle brought him to the Galapagos in 1831, with a focus on current island discovery, adventure, and cutting-edge science. Sunday, April 14—Monday, May 13: Special Presentation of Reefs Illuminated

In this new film, shown in the Geodome theater in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life, Museum scientists John Sparks and David Gruber take a journey to the remote South Pacific coral reefs of the Solomon Islands to explore biofluorescent species of fishes and stingrays along with biofluorescent corals, crinoids, anemones, and other glowing invertebrates. Reefs Illuminated premieres at Island Life on Sunday, April 14.
