Arranging a Visit

PLEASE NOTE: Effective April 2023: Visits to the collections remain temporarily suspended while collections staff undertake a move of the collection to our new space in the Gilder Center. Visits are unlikely to resume before the end of July 2023; please check back with us at that time to make an appointment.

The collections and library are available to researchers and students. Appointments to visit should be made in advance by contacting [email protected]. Requests should include a brief summary of the work to be done and the length of the visit. Students should include an introduction from their advisor. The collections are open to visitors Monday-Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, unless special arrangements are made. The facilities are closed on New Year's Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Lincoln's Birthday, President's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Election Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. If you need housing accommodations there are a number of local hotels that may be available.

There is an annual competition for a limited number of collection study grants for graduate students interested in examining specimens in the AMNH Department of Ichthyology collection.
