Fellowships
The Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Programs at the Richard Gilder Graduate School of the American Museum of Natural History are designed to advance the training of each participant by having them pursue a specific, time-limited project in association with Museum professionals in the Museum setting.
AMNH-Bard Research Fellowship in Museum Anthropology.
Bard Graduate Center invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship jointly appointed at Bard Graduate Center and in the Anthropology Division and the Richard Gilder Graduate School of the American Museum of Natural History.

Internships
The Anthropology Internship Program offers academic credit, unpaid, and paid internships for undergraduate and graduate students interested in careers in anthropology, museums or related fields. Anthropology interns work on projects relating to the collections or to the ongoing research interests of the curatorial staff in the museum or in the field.
Internship Application Deadlines 2026
For all internships except North American Archaeology internships, application dates are:
- Summer Session (July and August): submit March 1 – April 15
- Fall Session (September to December): submit June 1 – July 15
- Spring Session 2026 (January to May): submit October 1–November 15
For North American Archaeology internships, application dates are:
- Summer Session (June to August): submit January 1–March 1
- Fall Session (September to December): submit June 1–July 10
- Spring Session 2026 (January to May): submit October 1–November 10
- Applicants should be enrolled in or have recently graduated from an academic institution.
- Applicants need to write a brief summary (one page or less) specifying your area of interest within anthropology, and how an internship will help you achieve your educational goals.
- If you are applying for credit, you must attach a copy of your transcript.
- In all cases, please attach a resume and include the name of an academic adviser or professor who can be contacted to provide a reference.
- As part of the Museum’s internship program and to ensure mentors receive appropriate training and guidance, please let us know your age for the duration of the internship.

Acceptance to the internship program is competitive. The number of interns accepted in any given session varies and is based on staff projects. Internships are limited to a maximum of two sessions of work.

The North American Archaeology Department offers Lab Researcher Internship positions for undergraduates, recent graduates, and graduate students three times per year. Please refer to this document for further details and how to apply.

Grants
Collection Study Grants provide financial assistance to enable pre-doctoral and recent post- doctoral investigators to study the scientific collections at the American Museum of Natural History.
- Through this program administered by the YVR Art Foundation, British Columbia and Yukon First Nations artists can apply for funding to visit and study items in the collections of the Anthropology Division. Annual deadline in September.
