Director in Attendance

Director Leili Sreberny-Mohammadi’s experimental documentary brings to life the year-long correspondence between her grandparents, both Holocaust survivors, during the post-war years. Their story is pieced together through photographs, letters, telegrams, and archival footage from the era, revealing love across distance and the search for a partner during troubled times.

Preceded by the Mead Mixer, a daily happy hour in Cafe on One from 6-7:30 pm

Co-presented by NYU Dept. of Anthropology’s Graduate Program in Culture and Media

Past Forward, My Perspective

"The theme of this year's festival, Past Forward, resonates deeply with my work. In A Correspondence I deal with the intertwining experiences of the personal and political in people's everyday lives during times of acute upheaval. By reflecting on historical ruptures as experienced within my own family I hope to provide a lens through which we can better comprehend present conditions of political flux and unfathomable violence."
