Earth and Planetary Sciences

The Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences curates the Museum's world-renowned collections of minerals, gems, meteorites, ores, rocks, drill core, and mantle xenoliths. Staff members conduct research that explores the nature of terrestrial and planetary processes.

Research Department members are engaged in a variety of research activities, and often collaborate with scientists from around the world. EPS Collections The collections are a living archive of rock, mineral & gem, and meteorite specimens available for study or exhibition. Facilities for Research Department members have access to an array of tools to enable geoscience research. Seminars The Earth and Planetary Sciences Dept. holds seminars during the academic year. Refer to the schedule for details. Education Researchers in the department oversee educational and professional development programs that lead toward advanced degrees. Public Outreach We create exhibits and provide scientific expertise to many educational programs and outreach services in the Museum.
