Cameca SX5 Tactis Electron Microprobe
Electron Microprobe

The electron microprobe facility at AMNH houses a 5-spectrometer Cameca SX5-Tactis that was installed in September 2019. This new probe can detect and analyze elements from B to U at concentrations below 0.01 weight percent, thanks to a LaB6 cathode, and has an enhanced imaging capacity (HQ BSE). Stage movement has a resolution of 0.1 microns. The Bruker energy dispersive spectrometer system is fully integrated with the Cameca quantification software. The laboratory is managed by CĂ©line Martin ([email protected]). The electron microprobe laboratory is a joint facility shared between the Museum, the City University of New York, and Columbia University's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, funded by a National Science Foundation award in 2018.
