Hydrothermal Vent Colony

The deepest parts of the ocean would present extreme challenges for most forms of life. At the surface, sunlight provides the energy that fuels the food chain. But down here, chemicals flowing out of the seafloor supply the energy. Giant tube worms that live on hydrothermal vents rely on microbes living inside their bodies to convert those chemicals into nutrients.
