A prevailing challenge for conservation educators and practitioners in tropical countries is the limited access to information. Between 1999 and 2011, NCEP led collaborative efforts to enhance the capacity of higher education institutions in the Southern Tropical Andes region (Bolivia and Peru).
Specifically, we supported the development and integration of teaching and learning materials in biodiversity conservation in academic and professional training programs, and promoted collaboration between conservation educators and practitioners on the development and implementation of field courses. There are now 28 Spanish-language NCEP modules available and NCEP has supported six field courses for protected area staff in both countries. We have collaborated with project partners on the design of one Master’s and two Certificate programs for professionals in Peru.
We have also led numerous training and module development workshops in Mexico, in partnership with the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
